Postponed: Kristina Vaughan guest at SpokenWord will be in February

UPDATE: Kristina has lost her voice so her guest spot is postponed. SpokenWord of course will run as usual.

SpokenWord theme – BEGINNINGS

kristina-1Kristina Vaughan is a Parisian songwriter. She learnt classical piano in French conservatoires, honed the craft of singing and songwriting with coach Jessica Saraf (Sanseverino, Calogero) and started giving concerts in 2013, first as a soloist, then in duo and trio setups. Her music is a blend of Anglo-Saxon and European sounds, as she draws inspiration both from her Czech and Italian origins and from important figures of English songwriting (Sinead O’Connor, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Alanis Morissette, Jeff Buckley, Damien Rice…). In impressionistic tunes reminiscent of broken cliffs, running water and angry skies, the pianist-singer spins yarns about love, hope and engagement with the world, accompanied by cellist-backup singer Marie Potosniak and, successively, drummer Guillaume Valette, beatboxer Skysoul, and drummer Raphaël Meyrier.
Discover her music on www.kristinavaughan.com.

Kristina is also keyboard player and backup singer in French prog rock band Jadallys (www.jadallys.com). In January 2017, she is launching an English lyrics writing workshop for non-native speakers, Naked Lyrics (http://nakedlyrics.wixsite.com/nakedlyrics).

Open Secret, 2nite! “What is joy?” with guest poet Raluca Petrescu!

raluca

Open Secret! Intimate open mic, Wednesdays underground
@ Le Bistrot des Artistes, 6 rue des Anglais, 5è Paris.
8pm, nightlong sign-up starts, & at 9 le spectacle!
Theme: “What is joy?” Guest poet Raluca Petrescu!
Métro Maubert-Mutualité (line 10) or Saint-Michel (line 4).
Raluca’s poignant & powerful words acknowledge the presence of great poets of the past, from the classics to the moderns to more contemporary verse, but she creates a language of her own. Thought-provoking & inventive, & ever-affirmative, she recites with the strong emphasis of an actor…all-the-while “making the magical study of happiness,” as Rimbaud would say. Investigating joy…Here she is on the last episode of the series Runaway Poets, by director Steve Nahaj: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNM9IgEmVtc

Open Secret, 2nite! Stellar poet Ella Russell: “Everybuddy fall in love already!” Also, the words/sounds of Didier Cornevin.

Ella & the Snowman

Open Secret ~ that intimate open mic, Wednesdays underground @ Le Bistrot des Artistes, 6 rue des Anglais , 5è. At 8pm nightlong sign-up starts, & at 9 the show! Métro Maubert-Mutualité (line 10) or Saint-Michel (line 4). Theme:“Everybody fall in love, already!”

Our special guest poet this Wednesday, visiting us from Glasgow, is Ella Russell, who knows how to distill raw feeling into fine lines, & illuminate topics like friendship & love (which Rilke, of course, told the young poet that they could only be handled in the hands of a mature poet ~ not necessarily mature in age, as Neruda & now Ella will show you, at around the same age). Lovely!

Also, the words/sounds of Didier Cornevin…who turns the poetry of Baudelaire, Rimbaud & others into music, as well as writing his own nouvelle French chanson! See you at le spectacle!
