AWOL

Updated February 2023.

The AWOL writers’ group is currently running every Sunday evening 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the Chat Noir, 76 rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud, 75011. Time may vary – check AWOL’s facebook page.

Relaunched in 2017 as AWOL Writers’ Group, this drop-in feedback workshop has been running since David Barnes started it under the name The Other Writers’ Group in 2005.

It’s a very down-to-earth, unpretentious and welcoming place to get some serious feedback on your work or listen and join in the discussion of other people’s poems, stories, etc.

These folk are not messing about, they really care that we all support each other to learn the craft, keep writing, and grow as writers.

If you want feedback then bring 10 copies of your poem or of up to 4 pages of prose.

  • Watch Jame DiBiasio’s interview with hosts of the writers’ group here.
  • Read an article on the writers’ group in Expatriates Magazine.

The workshop is run by Bruce Sherfield, Simon Millward, Thibaut Narme and Camille Adnot.

The workshop is free!

Thanks to Minahil Khan for the photos of AWOL when it was at Shakespeare and Company.

Its 6:30 in Paris and I’m thinking about the wonderful people I was privileged to meet while I was there the past two weeks. Everyone was warm and welcoming in person, creative and thoughtful in their craft. I will forever remember those two great Sunday evenings I spent in your company, and I thank you for providing the inspiration I was looking for on that trip. All the best to all of you!! – Steve Powers
